Can’t Olivia Pope Be By Herself?
I am just wondering about Olivia Pope and Fitz Grant. Their love seems like a once in a lifetime love. Some people say true love strikes only once and sometimes twice if you are lucky. Others are of the opinion that we can love different people equally at different times in our lives. Both theories are right. But I have to say when it comes to Olivia and Fitz, it does seem like a once in a lifetime love.
And if so and this is strictly my opinion. I do not think Olivia needs a new love interest. The chemistry and intensity between Olivia and Fitz is so alluring and leaves viewers spell bound. Why spoil that? People are even speculating that there is no way Fitz and his wife Millie Grant can be intimate to conceive the ‘baby’ that saved his Presidency. Then why should Olivia be subject to a new love interest.
I may be rambling but I definitely will be heartbroken. Fitz is Olivia’s kryptonite, so really I feel she should fix herself first. As Kerry Washington said when describing Olivia Pope, “when it comes to her own love life she is broken and vulnerable and needs her own Olivia Pope to fix her.” Falling for a new man once again in my opinion will compound an already bad problem.
I like that Shonda Rhimes, Scandal’s creator said the obstacle to Olivia and Fitz’s relationship is the country. That to me is very distinctive. And even though Fitz was ready to give it up, Olivia put her country before herself. This goes along with what the investigator said in Episode 4(Enemy of the State); “She is somewhat Mother Theresa with the exception of the affair she had during the Campaign Trail”. She definitely did the honorable thing by putting the country first. I hope she will use this time to be alone and discover who she really is: a sophisticated, powerful and intelligent woman who loves fixing and resolving other people’s issues.
I would also love to see more on the Public Relations firm. So far, the subject matters have been very interesting and definitely like nothing on television. Judy Smith, the person on which Olivia Pope is based on has a very fascinating and out of the ordinary job. I look forward to writers exploring more of that.
And hey I wouldn’t mind scenes that show feelings of hurt, anger and sexual tension between Fitz and Olivia because either way in good times or bad times; there is no denying their off the chain smoking chemistry. After all that is a big part of why we love the show Scandal.

I like the way you think. Livy should try “fixing ” herself and gaining some insight to what makes her love her Fitz the way that she does. Helping others on the worst day of their life is what she does best. Go Gladiators. I cannot wait for season 2.
Great idea, Sianna! I’m open to Olivia not having a love interest! As much as I want a #JEalousFitz to happen, it would be refreshing for Olivia to take a time out from her love life to focus on herself! I too feel that much should be explored about Olivia the person and not Olivia the career woman! I want this new season to explore how she became who she is today! What happened in her life that made her want to do this career for a living? She goes above and beyond for fixing other people’s problems but her own love life is so tangled up! I really wish in season 2 she takes time to address her own issues and work on them. We barely know much about Olivia’s personal life! What does she do when she’s not working? Does she jog to let everything out? Why does she insist on having photos of her and Fitz in her apartment and office? Granted that Fitz is her greatest professional achievement but he is also the love of her life! Who is Livi’s best friend? Season 1 would have us thinking it’s Stephen but with Stephen gone – who would be her anchor?
Amen! You have said EVERYTHING that I feel in regards to Fitz and Olivia’s once in a lifetime love and the fact that she does not need a new love interest! Olivia has a love interest and his name is Fitz…end of story in my book. I’m anxious to see those tension filled moments between the two, the pull that they try to deny and resist only to find themselves giving in. Honestly their chemistry is one of the bigger draws to this show for me. I also love all the dealings at the White House including Cyrus and Mellie. The associates are growing on me but the undeniable love story between Fitz and Olivia is where I’m at and will continue to buy every delicious morsel Shonda wants to sell me!

Yes she can be by herself! Olivia needs to take a vaca regroup and focus on herself for awhile. As far as I’m concerned she needs to figure out what she is going to do now that Stephen has left the show. Olivia needs to be the fixer for herself and her and clients. There’s know need for a love interest for her right now especially with David..smh!! Fitz needs to be the POTUS and eff what everybody else wants him to do. As far as I am concern Olivia and Fitz are endgame for me.
Liv should have a love interest. I didn’t say fall in love, I said just have someone on the show who pursues her and drives Fitz crazy. This man should be real eye candy! Why should she be alone while Fitz and his wife try to make a baby. I think that will help them realize that no one else can replace the love that they have for each other and the end game will be Fitz and Liv,
If there is to be another love interest for Olivia it should be one-sided. Have him falling for her just enough to make Fitz jealous. We don’t want Olivia bed hopping. That would be sleazy. As stated above there are many other aspects of her to explore. But wherever Shondra goes with this show, she MUST keep the love between Fitz and Olivia alive!
